The View of Diabetes from Europe
October 1st, 2012
I am on the road, heading for Berlin to attend the annual meeting of the EASD, the European Association for the Study of Diabetes. This gathering is similar to the annual meeting of the ADA: a large number of attendees interested primarily in developments in clinical diabetes but also interested in learning about the latest research for their own edification and for the education of their diabetic patients.
Over years of attending such events, I’ve learned that they definitely have a national character. A meeting is Japan is a very different experience than a meeting in Italy. This EASD meeting is continental, so I expect greater formality and deference than one would find at an American meeting. And I am hoping for an unfamiliar set of hot topics: the developments discussed and concerns expressed in casual conversations.
We are presenting the first data on our large-animal studies. As promised, it will be posted after the presentation later this week.
