Islet Sheet Presentation at EASD in Berlin
October 2nd, 2012
Today, at the annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), Prof. Jonathan Lakey presented the first data from the ongoing UC Irvine – Islet Sheet Medical study of the Islet Sheet using diabetic pigs .

The beautiful photograph (lower left) of the Islet Sheet, fabricated using our latest technology, drew great interest.

Congratulations on this presentation and thank you for sharing this interesting poster.
I’ve been following this blog for a long time, but now this will be my first post.
I can’t figure out the table in the lower middle section (Table 1).
Lower values are better and given a higher score and percentage? They signify that the islets are functioning after transplantation? What would be ‘optimal’ values to ‘cure’ the piggy from its newly acquired burden?
Thank you!
Islet Viability shows that the islets are alive; it is measured using a viability stain. The stimulation index is the increase in insulin release when you increase glucose, and 3 is good. Unfortunately these measures are only an approximate measure of how well islets will function in vivo, but are useful.
